Indoor Tanning Tips
Indoor Tanning Tips are the same tips that you normally hear for outdoor tanning. The UV rays of the sun causes the stimulation of the skin cells to produce melanin. Melanin is the pigment in your skin that allows the skin to tan.
There are also two different types of ultraviolet rays, UVB and UVB. Indoor tanning utilizes both of these types of UV rays in most products. UVB rays are the ones that stimulate the production of skin pigment melanin. UVA rays are the ones that oxidize the melanin, causing the brown color for the desired tanning results. Each tanning bed, booth, etc… use different combinations of bulbs and lamps to achieve the proper rays in order for you to tan. The exposure time is regulated by the Federal Government to ensure that you are not overexposed. However, you may burn before their limit of exposure. Therefore, you should always begin gradually and only for a few minutes for the first few sessions and not every day.
You should talk with the assistant at the tanning salon to ensure your skin type so you can determine the proper scheduling to ensure that you receive a nice quality tan with burning your skin.
Other indoor tanning tips include
Wear FDA compliant eye protection to protect your eyes against the UV rays. Just closing your eyes or wearing your regular sunglasses is not enough protection.
You may not believe this, but you should never tan indoors without using protection on your lips such as sunscreen made especially for your lips or your favorite lip balm. Your lips can receive damage from the UV rays that are emitted during your tanning session.
Remember to tan your body evenly. If you are planning to expose new areas of your body that you have not been exposing be sure to cover these areas after only a few minutes. This area of your body does need to be exposed gradually like when you first began to tan. You can increase the exposure to these areas gradually until you have an even tan.
If you are on any type of mediation, you should talk with your doctor prior to tanning. Some medications may have reactions when exposed to UV light just as with some antibiotics warn of direct sunlight.
The most important indoor tanning tip is to moisturize your skin. The heat and the light can dry can your skin just like being outdoors can dry your skin. It is recommended that even during the winter months you should use a moisturizer for your skin. Your skin needs water to stay healthy so drinking plenty of water and using a quality moisturizer on your skin will help keep your skin healthy while you enjoy your tanning sessions.
